How to tell the difference between release and debug in Visual Studio 2017

I’m new to development, and I don’t understand how to tell the difference between a release build and a debug build in Visual Studio 2017.
When I choose Build > Build Solution or press F5, the console just spits out results to the build and doesn’t say anything about whether the build is release or debug. It does however, have a drop down menu for configuration (such as Debug and Release) as well as having Build, Run, and the “Deployment” tab. The items under Deployment are “Azure App Service”, “Deployment Analyzer” and “Local Agent”.
I’ve searched online, and nothing I’ve found has helped.

F5 is for Debug and Debug Start.
Build Solution is for Debug and Release (See also Release vs Debug)
Run is for Debug and Release (See also Release vs Debug)
Deployment is for Release (See also Release vs Debug)
Deployment Analyzer is for Release (See also Release vs Debug)
Azure App Service is for Release (See also Release vs Debug)
Local Agent is for Release (See also Release vs Debug)
The dropdown menu for Configuration contains

Version history
The first public demonstration of AutoCAD software was presented at the 1992 Winter Annual Meeting of the Association for Computing Machinery. AutoCAD Software 1.0 was released on October 25, 1993. It was originally only available as a development tool for AutoCAD users, with the intention of distributing AutoCAD with the release of Autodesk’s first architecture computer, the AutoCAD DX, in 1993. Autodesk’s marketing strategy at the time was to first develop software for AutoCAD users, and then expand to other areas as necessary. The AutoCAD 1.0 code was also shipped with the first release of the AutoCAD DX. The AutoCAD DX was the first AutoCAD system to use Microsoft Windows 3.1 as its operating system.

Since then, Autodesk has released regular upgrades of AutoCAD for both the AutoCAD and AutoCAD LT lines, which include bug fixes and code improvements. The most recent major release is AutoCAD 2015. Version 2018 was launched in November 2016 and includes many new and enhanced features, such as the Application Programming Interface (API) for 3D and Surface coordination. In addition, there are new tools, such as object datum and annotations, and easier editing.

AutoCAD Express editions are not regularly updated, but there is a version of AutoCAD for Windows called AutoCAD LT, which is updated every two years. AutoCAD LT 2011 was released in November 2011. Autodesk offers several different editions of AutoCAD LT, starting with free Student, and including Architectural, Engineering, Construction, New Product, and Specialty.

Industry use
AutoCAD is the de facto standard for drafting and design in the engineering, architecture, manufacturing, utilities, construction, and architecture design industries. According to Autodesk, AutoCAD is used in over 70 percent of all drawings used in the United States. As of November 2016, AutoCAD has over 20 million users.

There are also a number of AutoCAD Plug-ins available for use in applications including: Data-to-Image, IronPython, QGIS, QCAD, AutoCAD Architectural and Mechanical, Sheetz Updraft, Ultimate CAD, Cadwid, and many more.

Autodesk’s AutoCAD® Architecture software offers professional-quality drafting and design software for the architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) markets. Auto

Open the project file as a formatter in an application that supports this feature, like Microsoft Office 365.

When the processing of your project is complete, you can save it as an AutoCAD drawing.

What’s New In AutoCAD?

Improved modeling tools. For larger models, or for models that contain a large number of components, AutoCAD now supports simultaneous display of the interior, exterior, and assembly views. To use the Interior and Exterior views, first edit a model to add components. Then switch to the Assembly view, choose a model component, and toggle the visibility of the other two views for that component. (video: 1:55 min.)

Continuously update the model when you edit, rotate, and resize an object.

Measuring tools:

Enable easy measuring and placement of text and dimensions on forms, tables, and other drawings, without creating and editing text and dimension elements.

New AutoLISP functions:

Data export to.csv files, including for Excel, for data files, and for multiple types of delimited files.

New solutions:

Work smarter by recording and reproducing measurement and layout sessions.

New Windows, Web, and Mobile apps:

Many apps are now available for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android, and web browsers.

New Python programming API:

We’ve added a Python programming API that makes it easy to integrate AutoCAD into your applications.

New utilities for controlling PDF, WebDAV, and more:

View PDFs with the new command from the command line, and read, edit, and write files using a WebDAV interface.

New 3D content:

Get 3D model content for parts and assembly models. The new parts and assembly models can be used with multiple AutoCAD release versions. AutoCAD LT users can also convert older parts and assembly files to the new format.

New 2D content:

Support for labels, arrows, and text. Create text using TEXTSYSTEM, with sub-line, sub-paragraph, and character spacing. Label objects with text. Scale and rotate labels, arrows, and text. Align text, arrows, and labels. Add and edit arrows. Customize text, fonts, and other properties.

Improved drawing features:

Draw better-looking structures. The thickness of structures can be controlled.

Use annotation layers to control the order that objects are displayed on a drawing. The default annotation layer is now Layer 1, which displays objects below the current view, and allows you to control
